Scholarships

Each year we announce the availability of 2 scholarships for members who are interested in attending an organized woodturning class or a one-on-one class with a recognized woodturning instructor. The scholarships are meant to help the members cover the cost of attending these classes. The one requirement that is carried by these scholarships is the recipient must present the results of their experience to the group via a lecture or a demonstration.

When the scholarship application deadline and award dates are announced, please download and print this Scholarship Application Form to enter your request for these funds. The scholarship requests are anonymously reviewed by the TAW Board and Officers and are awarded to those who have provided the most compelling case for the funding.

The Tennessee Association of Woodturners is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The TAW exists to foster the art and craft of woodturning. It provides educational and networking opportunities for its members via symposiums, demonstrations, and scholarships. It has also supported local organizations such as Tennessee Craft, Narrow Gate Lodge and the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home. It provides educational and networking opportunities for its members via symposiums, demonstrations, and scholarships. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the TAW is organized to provide a public benefit, which in the TAW case is to foster the art and craft of woodturning.

1. The TAW should avoid any appearance of providing a private benefit to individuals or other organizations.

2. The TAW provides educational opportunities to its members thru symposiums, demonstrations and scholarships.

3. For purposes of community outreach, etc, the TAW should not recognize a non-entity as an entity. So, if a club does not have official status with the federal and state government, we cannot make it “official”.
